A not-for-profit charity event in support of Little Steps Matter.

Every kid rolls.
Every roll helps.

The Bali Grappling Championship is a charity tournament for young jiu-jitsu athletes in Bali, but open for every child everywhere. No gym politics, no big-event pressure: just good matches with the whole community cheering.

Once basic costs are covered, everything we raise goes to Little Steps Matter, funding sterilisation and vaccinations for Bali's street dogs.

Tournament rules

Match time

Up to 13 years old: 3 minutes.
14 to 17 years old: 5 minutes.

Scoring

Takedown 2, sweep 2, guard pass 3, mount 4, back control 4. No advantage points.

Submissions

Win by tap or verbal submission with techniques allowed for your division. The referee can stop the match once a submission is fully secured.

Illegal techniques

IBJJF rules for the age division apply. The referee can stop any action they consider dangerous.

Draws

If the score is level, the referee picks the athlete who showed more intent to attack and go for a submission. The decision is final.

Safety first

The referee makes the final call on points, penalties and stopping a match. The safety of the athletes always comes first.

Parents' questions

Does my child need competition experience?

No. First-timers are welcome. Divisions are grouped by age, belt and weight so kids face others at their level.

Which gyms can enter?

Any gym or academy, from Bali or anywhere else. Registration is open to everyone on Smoothcomp, and this is a charity event, so no team is left out.

Is it gi or no-gi?

Gi. This is the Youth Gi Edition.

What should my child bring?

A clean gi, a water bottle, snacks and flip-flops for walking off the mats. Nails trimmed short, please.

Can family come and watch?

Yes. Bring grandparents, siblings and friends. The more noise on the sidelines, the better.

Where does the entry fee go?

Your IDR 250,000 entry fee covers the basics: registration, your medal and your t-shirt. Everything else goes to Little Steps Matter.
